You Just Can’t Make This Stuff Up!

With all this religious right business in Kentucky, it reminded us of this. Several years ago in Tampa at one of the big box churches, there was going to be a seminar on converting homosexuals to become heterosexuals. We have known many straight guys who admitted to being gay, but not one gay man that turned straight. Anyway, we were a part of a group of LGBT community leaders that decided to do a protest on the sidewalk in front of this church. We called ahead and told them that we were coming on Friday at 3 p.m. About 40 of us protesters showed up. The pastor came out and talked with us. He was actually quite nice. Then the church board came out and lined up on the church front steps. If looks could kill, we would all have been dead right there. The pastor told us that they could not chance anything with their children, so school was called off early. He asked us not to start our protest until after the children had been safely removed from the property. Just then, the school buses started to roll out. As the buses passed us, the schoolchildren started to spit at us, throwing their lunches and screaming out every dirty word you could think of. Meanwhile, the church board smiled with approval at their children. We proceeded with prayers that God loves everyone and left peacefully. Several months later, this pastor was killed in a plane accident.

Boulevard

Boulevard, Robin Williams’ last movie, is now on cable. It is a very dark drama about the gay world. The acting was award-winning. With the movie being so very dark and depressing, it makes one wonder if it had something to do with Robin’s suicide. We all know many people liked Robin’s portrayal in this must-see film.

artLOUD

Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW) Tampa Bay has organized streetcar sculpture art and it’s coming to Tampa. The streetcars will be four feet long, 18 inches high and 18 inches wide. They will be in Channelside and Ybor City. “Dishing with Mark and Carrie” is very proud to be sponsoring a streetcar. We are very lucky to be working with artist Wende Wilkerson.  There is a preview party scheduled for October 15 at the Yacht StarShip in Channelside. There will be much more to come in our column. For more information, go to artloud.org.
