Straight No Chaser Embarks on Their “New Old Fashioned Tour”

The Famed A Cappella Group Makes Six Stops in Florida

Opportunity knocks at any time, so it’s good to listen for it — for ten men who participated in their college glee club, their dreams of singing professionally came a decade after they first met and many years after they left college. Now, the group known as Straight No Chaser (consisting of Michael Luginbill, Randy Stine, David Roberts, Charlie Mechling, Jerome Collins, Walter Chase, Donald Nottingham, Sargon Isho, Tyler Trepp, and Steve Morgan) has grown to become a nationwide sensation, all thanks to the power of the Internet.

The group has now started their latest nationwide tour, and six of those stops will be right here in the Sunshine State. The tour dates are as follows: the Florida Theatre in Jacksonville on Tuesday, November 17 at 8 p.m.; the King Center for the Performing Arts in Melbourne on Wednesday, November 18 at 7:30 p.m.; Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall in Sarasota on Thursday, November 19 at 8 p.m.; the Kravis Center in West Palm Beach on Friday, November 20 at 8 p.m.; the Straz Center in Tampa on Saturday, November 21 at 8 p.m.; and the Adrienne Arsht Center in Miami on Sunday, November 22 at 7 p.m.

Straight No Chaser was formed in 1996 at Indiana University as a collegiate a cappella singing group. The group of ten men gained acclaim locally and nationwide performing in Chicago’s Wrigley Field and New York City’s Carnegie Hall, and even opening for legends such as R&B singer Lou Rawls. In 1999, the original group left and new members took their place.

In 2006, a video of the original lineup performing the comic version of “The 12 Days of Christmas” back in 1998 was uploaded to YouTube. It received over 16 million views and the CEO of Atlantic Records, Craig Kallman, immediately signed them to a contract. The original group (including two more recent members) released their first album, a Christmas album called Holiday Spirits, in 2008. Since then, the group has released four additional albums, with the latest, The New Old Fashioned, going on sale last month. The collegiate group, which is still performing, is now named “Another Round.”
