On Wednesday, January 18th, Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D, FL) took the oath of office for her 7 th term in the United States House of Representatives. Wasserman Schultz represents Florida’s 23rd congressional district which covers parts of Broward and Palm Beach Counties.

The ceremony, which took place at the Federal Courthouse in Fort Lauderdale was attended by Cleto Buren, Hotspots CEO, and his husband Peter Clark, President of Hotspots Media Group.

Wasserman Schultz, a staunch Democrat will have her work cut out for her as the party relinquishes all branches of government to the Republican Party. This is only the 5 th time in our nation’s history that the GOP has controlled both houses of congress as well as the Presidency at the same time. She easily won her seat back due to Palm Beach and Broward’s Democratic population. Along with Miami-Dade to the south, Broward and Palm Beach Counties are among the few counties in the sunshine state that traditionally support the Democrats.

Buren and Clark were joined by Congressman Ted Deutch (D, FL) as well as Jason King of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation and Michael Albeta of the Dolphin Democrats.
