La república de Guatemala se encuentra ubicada en Centro América. Este país Centro  Americano está lleno de mucha historia y es rico en cultura debido a las civilizaciones Maya  que habitaron en tiempos antiguos.

Los Mayas constituyen una de las más trascendentales civilizaciones del mundo. Para la humanidad dejaron un legado social, político, religioso y económico de gran valor; para Guatemala representan parte de su historia, pues fue allí donde vivieron.

Los trabajos, la forma de vida, el comercio, las edificaciones, las costumbres de la civilización Maya han sido algunos de los temas investigados por diferentes profesionales a través del tiempo. Pese a esto, el motivo de su desaparición en la tierra aún no es clara; algunos opinan que su fin llegó con la conquista de los españoles. Hay datos importantes que todavía se desconocen sobre los alcances arquitectónicos, científicos y astronómicos de los Maya. La civilización Maya se divide en 3 períodos: el preclásico (1800 a. de C.- 250 d. de C.), el clásico (250 – 900 d. de C.) y el posclásico (900 -1521 d. de C.) Y durante ese tiempo se ubicaron como habitantes de las regiones que hoy conocemos como Yucatán, Quintana Roo, Campeche, el este de Chiapas, Tabasco –todos sitios mexicanos-, Belice, parte de Honduras, de El Salvador y el territorio guatemalteco en su totalidad. Como su nombre lo indica, es precisamente La Antigua Guatemala, el lugar donde estuvo la capital del reino en los tiempos de la colonia española. Su belleza es impactante, como si el tiempo se hubiera detenido, conservando los detalles arquitectónicos de la época.

La Guatemala actual cuenta con 109,000 kilómetros cuadrados, según el informe Nacional de personas. Hasta marzo 2015, estaba habitado por 16 millones 771 mil 248, de los cuales seis millones 749 mil 358 son menores de edad, y 10 millones 21 mil 890, mayores de 18 años.

El país limita al oeste y al norte con México, al este con Belice, el golfo de Honduras y la República de Honduras, al sureste con El Salvador, y al sur con el océano Pacífico.

Posee una gran variedad climática, debido a su relieve montañoso que va desde el nivel del mar hasta los 4,220 metros sobre ese nivel.

El país tiene ecosistemas que van desde manglares en los humedales del Pacífico hasta los bosques nublados en altas montañas. Es un país rico por la diversidad de su cultura.

Después de la firma de los Acuerdos de Paz, en 1996, el país reconoce 25 idiomas, 25 etnias y cuatro culturas que cohabitan en la nación.  Las culturas reconocidas son las raíces Mayas, Ladinas, Xincas y la Garífunas.

Lugares turísticos y muy importantes de la República de Guatemala

Antigua Guatemala

Fundada en 1543, fue distinguida durante la época colonial como la ciudad más bella del continente, haciendo gala de magnificas arquitecturas renacentistas y barrocas. Terremotos a lo largo del tiempo fueron destruyendo gran parte de los antiguos monumentos de la ciudad, siendo algunos restaurados mientras otros dejados en ruinas. Hoy declarada Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO, es probablemente uno de los lugares más atractivos y turísticos de Guatemala, haciendo gala de calles empedradas que serpentean entre antiguas iglesias, conventos y coloridas casonas ricamente ornamentadas. Vale destacar entre sus atractivos el Convento de las Capuchinas, correspondientes a las ruinas mejor conservadas de la ciudad.

Tikal.
Alguna vez capital de uno de los reinos más poderosos de los antiguos Mayas, corresponde sin duda a uno de los lugares turísticos de Guatemala más fascinantes para amantes de la arqueología, una ciudad fundada alrededor del siglo 5, que habría alcanzado su máximo esplendor entre el 200 y el 900, dominando gran parte de la región en el ámbito político, económico y militar. La arquitectura de la antigua ciudad está construida en piedra caliza e incluye vestigios de templos que se elevan más de 70 metros, grandes palacios reales, además de una serie de pirámides menores, palacios, residencias, edificios administrativos, plataformas y monumentos de piedra.

Semuc Champey.
Dos sitios naturales ubicados cercanos uno del otro, el primero sin duda es el más espectacular, correspondiendo a un curioso accidente natural donde el Río Cahabón fluye por una longitud de 300 metros bajo la roca, dejando en la superficie un grupo de pozas escalonadas de aguas turquesas y calmas con profundidades de entre 1 a 3 metros, en las cuales es posible bañarse rodado de un exuberante bosque tropical.Debido a su proximidad vale visitar las Cuevas del Lankin, un interesante complejo de salones, cúpulas y curiosas formaciones de piedra caliza que son posibles de recorrer por un circuito abierto al turismo de 400m.

Parque Nacional Quiriguá.

Uno de los sitios arqueológicos más importantes de Guatemala junto a Tikal, correspondiendo a una antigua ciudad maya que mantuvo su esplendor entre el siglo 5 y el 6. Hoy declarada Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO, permite recorrer las ruinas de sus antiguas construcciones, entre las cuales aun son apreciables vestigios de la acrópolis y su plaza. Si bien la arquitectura de este sitio es mucho más modesta que Tikal, presenta el valor de la riqueza de su escultura, albergando complejos altares, estelas y monumentos con deidades exquisitamente talladas.

Y sin antes olvidar una de la cosas que hace a Guatemala grande alrededor del mundo entero,  es su gastronomía la cual es rica en sabores y texturas. Decido a sus ingredientes y la fusión de las culturas española e indígena, surgió como resultado platillos con sabor único, que cada generación se convierten en la preferencia de los guatemaltecos.

Los guatemaltecos pueden degustar los sabores típicos de las ventas de la calle, pero también pueden optar por platos servidos con un estilo más sofisticado, razón por la cual presentamos algunas delicias que se preparan en el país. En los platillos se encuentran el Caldo de Res, Chanfaina y Chuchitos, entre muchos platillos más.

Antigua Guatemala

Tikal

Once the capital of one of the most powerful kingdoms of the ancient Mayans, it undoubtedly corresponds to one of the most fascinating tourist places in Guatemala for lovers of archeology, a city founded around the 5th century, which would have reached its maximum splendor among the 200 and 900, dominating a large part of the region in the political, economic and military sphere.
