Hotspots Happening Out Art Gallery with Dennis Dean presents the August opening night reception which will celebrate artists form the Caribbean and their art in honor of Pridefete (an LGBTQ+ Caribbean Festival).

Thursday, August 1

Tonight, is the monthly Pride Skate (first Thursday of the month) at Xtreme Action Park (5300 Powerline Road, Ft laud) and this month it’s the official pre-party to Pridefete 2024. The night will star Velvet LeNore, DJ Tpro, a full liquor bar and lots of fun! There will also be a FREE raffle for 2 VIP tickets to Pridefete 2024.

Friday, August 2

Tropics Grille Bar and restaurant presents the premiere of their Summer Friday Series, An Intimate Evening With…tonight starring Electra with Rick Leonard on the piano. Electra starts at 8pm.

The Seminole Hardrock Hotel and Casino Hollywood presents the Jonas Brothers tonight and tomorrow night, Aug 3, at 8pm. Hotspots Happening Out Art Gallery with Dennis Dean presents the August opening night reception which will celebrate artists form the Caribbean and their art in honor of Pridefete (an LGBTQ+ Caribbean Festival). Featuring artwork by: Ali Miranda. Analicia Austin, Andrew Hollimon, Axel Martinez, Carlos Cesar Alves, Colipsso Cosmic, Franklyn Sinanan, Joanne Hampstead, Juan Perez, Kim Ferguson, Louiveste La Croix, Moodi D Creator, and Robert Figueroa-Peggs. The opening is from 6-9pm with a 7pm reveal of the Hotspots Cover Model Rashad Barrow, and while there don’t forget to vote for the People’s Choice Award (vote for your favorite artwork). The Exhibit runs through August 27 and the gallery normal hours are Tuesdays and Sundays from 2-7pm.

The Manor Complex presents “Eye Candy” starring festival DJ Alex Acosta along with spectacular décor and production in the ball room. Noche Latina Saturdays celebrates the birthday of Latina Icon Jennifer Lopez starring Yeisa Jovovich (Miss Florida F.I. 2023/24) and special guests. The night will also feature Go-Go papi’s, DJ Joshua Atom spinning the best mix of Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, Reggaeton, Latin House, etc. Doors open at 11pm at The Manor Saturdays with NO COVER for Fl Res with ID until midnight.

Sunday, August 4

Ronnie Larsen of Plays Of Wilton is throwing a little party at The Foundry to celebrate 30 years of writing plays. Today is the 30-year anniversary of his first play (not counting The Elf Play he wrote in the 6th grade).  His first play, Scenes From My Love Life, premiered in San Francisco, August 4th, 1994 and it began a journey that has culminated with an incredible life here in South Florida. He is throwing a little party today to celebrate after the matinee from 5-7pm. He invites everybody to stop by for some cake, ice cream and champagne. No reservations are needed, just show up, as he would love to see you there and thank you in person for supporting his work.

Stork’s Bakery presents August’s artist of the month, Michael Prendergast. Michael’s photography will be on display and for sale from today through September 1st. Please Join Michael for a meet greet on August 22nd from 6-8:30pm.

Friday, August 9

Tropics Grille Bar and restaurant presents their Summer Friday Series, An Intimate Evening With…with the premiere of “GUYS ON THE DRIVE: The Ultimate Male Burlesque Show, Broadway Style,” hosted by Oscar Novva starring Evan and this week’s special guest Antonio Edwards. The show which starts at 8pm, will also feature DJ Ruben Gonzalez on the piano.

The Mckenzie Project Inc presents Sip’N Stitch’N at The Joy & Liberation Center (5431 NW 15th St Bay #10, Margate) from 7:30 to 10pm. They invite everyone to join them for a sewing class while they gossip about the stigma around safer sex, HIV and Sex work. Material fabrics and sewing machines are provided. Space is limited and this event is hosted by Lady Marisa.

Empire Stage (1140 N. Flagler Dr. Ft. Lauderdale) presents The Temperamentals by Jon Morans from today through August 25 (Friday’s and Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 5pm). “Temperamental” was code for “homosexual” in the early 1950s, part of a created language of secret words that gay men used to communicate. The Temperamentals tells the story of two men—the communist Harry Hay and the Viennese refugee and designer Rudi Gernreich—as they fall in love while building the first gay rights organization in the pre-Stonewall United States. ORIS, the brand-new gay club in Hollywood will be celebrating their grand opening. The night will be hosted by Miss Florida 2023/24 Yeisa Jovovich, and feature dance music, dancers, drag shows, lots of fun and FREE Parking.

The Dania Improv presents Ron Funches tonight and  tomorrow night, Saturday, August 10.

Ron Funches is a national treasure. He is an accomplished stand-up comedian, actor and writer. Ron has had many memorable television roles including The Goldbergs, Blackish, New Girl, Transparent, Single Drunk Female, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Powerless and Undateable. Hotspots Magazine/Happening Out Television Network presents the 3rd annual Pridefete: An LGBTQ+ Caribbean Festival at Richardson Park from 6-11pm. The last two years over 1,000 people attended and this year it’s expected that there will be even more in attendance. The event will once again feature host Octavia Yearwood, with performances by Richard Forbes, Emcees Kerry and Pierre, Amanda D Rhod, Sobourney Barnes and many more including masqueraders and a parade. General admission tickets are $7 in advance and $10 at the door and VIP tickets, which include 5 drinks, hors d’oeuvres, and an air-conditioned space are $55 in advance and $75 at the door. Sunserve Youth presents “Back to School Carnival” at Sunshine Cathedral (1480 SW 9th Ave, in Fort Laud) from 3 to 7pm. Join them for a vibrant and inclusive event designed to celebrate diversity, provide information, and create a fun filled experience for families with children returning to school. The event aims to promote understanding, acceptance, and awareness while offering a range of engaging activities, delicious food, and fun rides. Free backpacks and supplies will be distributed. This is a free event.

NSU Art Museum presents Creativity Exploration: Home is Where the Heart Is from noon to 1:30pm. Gather inspiration from a variety of artists like Louise Bourgeois, Do Ho Suh, Erin Fostel, Frank Poor, Tracey Snelling and others that explore the theme of “home” in their work. Create your own mixed media work that represents what “home” means to you. Creativity Exploration adult workshops promote the benefits of material exploration and the mind-to-body experience. Studies have shown that 45 minutes of creative activity a day reduces stress and offers mental clarity and relaxation. In addition to producing a sense of well-being, sessions expand participants’ perceptions of forms, while increasing brain connectivity through visual and cognitive stimulation. The workshop is led by educator Lark Keeler, a specialist in mindfulness education. $15 for members; $25 for non-members, ages 18+. Preregistration required as space is limited.
