Eleven years after debuting on RuPaul’s Drag Race, Alaska Thunderfuck continues to prove “anus-thing is possible.” Her latest project, Drag: The Musical, premiered in Los Angeles before transferring Off-Broadway to New York City in October 2024. Alaska said, “Coming to New York has always been the goal…The response has been wonderful, and word of mouth is spreading.” Cocreated by Alaska, Ashley Gordon, and Tomas Costanza, the production features drag icons like Jujubee, Manila Luzon, and Luxx Noir London. All Stars 8 winner Jimbo now stars as Kitty Galloway, a role previously played by Alaska. Theater legend Liza Minnelli has also joined the team as an executive producer, calling the show “a work of art.” Alaska recalls Minnelli’s involvement fondly, saying, “She’s truly iconic.” Alaska praises the cast’s camaraderie and the dedication of non-drag actors like Nick Adams, who mastered drag makeup alongside seasoned queens. Alaska’s creation and participation in this entertainment production is rare in the drag community as it moves her to a behind-the-scenes role for producing and directing. Drag: The Musical is playing at New World Stages. For tickets, visit dragthemusical.com.
