Elon Musk has responded to critics after accusations of making a controversial salute. The tech billionaire was at the Capitol One Arena in Washington DC on January 20. He made the gesture during a speech celebrating Donald Trump’s inauguration. Trump had been sworn in earlier that day as the 47th US president. The gesture has been compared to a Nazi salute by some critics. The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) has also noted that neo-Nazis often use this salute. CNN anchor Erin Burnett has called it an “odd-looking salute,” while UK journalist Owen Jones also drew comparisons to a Nazi gesture. Responding to the Criticism, anti-LGBTQ Elon Musk shared a post on Twitter. The post read,
“Frankly, they need better dirty tricks. [[in another post]] The ‘everyone is Hitler’ attack is so tired. Can we retire the calling people a Nazi thing?”
to which he replied “Yeah exactly”, with a yawning emoji. No matter how much Musk downplays the gesture, people are questioning the sincerity of Musk’s clarification.
