JK Rowling’s newest crime novel has failed to break into major UK bestseller lists in 2025. The Hallmarked Man, written under her pen name Robert Galbraith, briefly entered the UK Top 50 but missed the Top 10 and most national charts. The book ranked just 32nd on Waterstones’ annual list. Rowling, who has become notorious for her views on trans rights, was also recently overtaken as the UK’s top author by children’s writer Julia Donaldson.
