A self-identified gay supporter of President Donald Trump is drawing widespread attention online after suggesting legal action against Democrats, claiming political divisions are affecting his dating life. Since being sworn in as the 47th president of the United States, Trump has enacted a series of anti-LGBTQ+ executive orders.
In that context, some gay men have openly stated they do not wish to date or engage romantically with MAGA supporters. A Threads user, Steve Jones, shared a screenshot from Facebook’s “Conservative Gay Singles Group,” a dating space for gay conservatives. Referencing the post, Jones wrote: “Gay Trumper now upset that other gay men don’t want to sleep with him…anyone want to join his class action lawsuit?”
In the original post, the anonymous user wrote: “Any of you feel like seeing the Dems for diving gay? Read the personals ‘no Trumpers, if you’re Republican, don’t write me!’ I think we have some class action or some case here, but I’m no lawyer!..It affects our free speech, and more!.. If we even mention our political views, we are tossed aside immediately and called traitors!” Online reactions were swift, with one user responding, “You made your bed, now lie in it,” and another commenting, “Good lord. Zero self-awareness.”
