Filmmaker Harry Lighton says his gay awakening was Groundskeeper Willie from The Simpsons, and he once pitched a biopic. Speaking at an A24 event, Lighton cited Willie’s scene in Sweet Seymour Skinner’s Baadasssss Song. Lighton said, “He’s just wearing some undies…Something about his accent, his ginger beard, and his body made me sit up and go, ‘Oh, I like the look of that.’” While a Simpsons movie sequel is currently slated for 2027, there’s no word on individual origin stories, despite Groundskeeper Willie’s popularity.
