Actor Shia LaBeouf is facing backlash after comments made during a recent interview about his arrest during Mardi Gras in New Orleans. In a conversation with YouTuber Andrew Callaghan, the 39-year-old said, “When I’m standing by myself and three gays are next to me touching my leg, I get scared. I’m sorry. If that’s homophobic, then I’m that. Yeah.” Police say the 39-year-old was arrested last week after allegedly hitting two people outside a Royal Street business. He then reportedly assaulted another person. It is unclear what exactly led to the incident. But in the interview, the actor appeared to suggest he had an altercation with a gay person or was annoyed by gay people’s presence near him.
He said, “I’m good with gay — be gay over there, though…Don’t be gay in my lap.”
