Cal Calamia won the nonbinary division at the Los Angeles Marathon on March 8, but received no prize money. Despite winning the marathon and repeating their 2024 win, Calamia was only awarded a medal. Why, you wonder? The race, organized by The McCourt Foundation, does not include nonbinary athletes in elite prize categories, which offer $25,000 to cisgender winners. The 2026 marathon drew over 27,000 participants and raised more than $4.5 million for charity, with 150 runners competing in the nonbinary division. Yet, this non-binary winner was not recognized.
