The announcement comes a year after the death of Plaza’s husband, Jeff Baena, who died at age 47 on January 3, 2025. His death was ruled a suicide. Plaza and Baena had separated in September 2024 after more than a decade together. Following his passing, Plaza stepped back from public appearances, including withdrawing from the 2025 Golden Globes.
She later returned during the Saturday Night Live 50th Anniversary Special, where she honored Baena by wearing a tie-dye shirt reminiscent of their wedding day. Plaza, who is bisexual, has since moved forward personally and professionally. The couple is set to welcome their baby this autumn. A source told PEOPLE that the couple “feel very blessed…it was a beautiful surprise after an emotional year.” Abbott is best known for his role as Charlie Dattolo in Girls and has appeared in films including Poor Things and Kraven the Hunter.
