Bexar County, Texas Judge Rosie Speedlin Gonzalez has agreed to resign after being indicted on charges of unlawful restraint and official oppression. The indictment stemmed from a mid-2025 complaint alleging Gonzalez exhibited unprofessional demeanor, threatened a defense attorney with contempt, and ordered the bailiff to handcuff the defense attorney and place her in the jury box.

Talking to the New York Post in January, Gonzalez said, “I’m a proud public servant, I’m LGBTQ, I own a gun, I’m bilingual, I’m an American citizen — and I have every right to defend myself…As long as I walk in righteousness and have God at my side I will be fine.” The judge, first elected in 2018, had also faced multiple misconduct complaints. Under the agreement, Gonzalez is permanently barred from judicial service, though she may still perform wedding ceremonies.
