This resurfaced story centers on poet Jay Hulme, who shared in 2019 how Stewart Head and Fisher reached out after Hulme came out as trans in 2015. Hulme wrote in a Twitter thread, “Anthony and his wonderful wife Sarah reached out and invited me to come to their farm for the day.” Hulme said the couple spent the day with him, took him to dinner, introduced him to their horses, and signed new photos for him after older convention photos still carried his dead name.

Hulme wrote, “Most importantly, however, they gave me what I had been lacking in my life up until that point – affirmation, compassion, and belief in my abilities.” The actor later wrote the foreword for Hulme’s first poetry collection. Hulme said he even adopted Anthony as his middle name in tribute. The story has resurfaced online amid renewed discussions about transgender rights and backlash surrounding comments by J. K. Rowling on gender identity.

Fans on social media have praised Stewart Head’s compassion and support for trans youth. Stewart Head died from complications related to pneumonia at age 72. The actor, best known for playing Giles on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, died just months after the death of his wife, Sarah Fisher.
