Madonna kicked off Pride Month the only way Madonna can — by turning Times Square into her own queer dance floor. The pop icon surprised fans with a free pop-up concert, performing tracks from her upcoming album Confessions II while giant screens lit up Midtown Manhattan. Backed by producer Stuart Price and her collaboration with Grindr, Madonna debuted new songs before shouting, “C’mon, gays. Happy Pride!” to the crowd. Pride flags filled the screens alongside historic images of LGBTQ+ marches and legends like Marsha P. Johnson and Keith Haring. To top it off, Madonna treated fans to a nostalgic throwback with hits from Confessions on a Dance Floor.
