It was a pleasure to sit down with Auston Henderson, who plays George Washington, for this exclusive Hotspots interview:

At what age did performing become an interest?

I started performing very young. My mom says I was singing when I was 3 years old, and in first grade I joined a choir.

When did you know performing would be your career?

It was innately in me. I knew from a very young age. I saw the movie Selena when I was a toddler and I looked at my mom and said that’s what I want to do.

If you weren’t performing, what would you be doing for a living?

I would run a restaurant or be a chef as I love the culinary arts. If not that, I would be an interior designer…. Whatever it was it would have to be something creative.

Is there extra pressure playing in such an iconic show?

At the beginning yes, but now I have confidence and I belong here. I worked very hard to get where I am at!

Other than this one, what has been your favorite role so far?

For a long time, it would have 100% been Angel in RENT, as that was a big moment for me. However, before playing George I was in the ensemble and understudied many parts and I really loved that.

What’s your fantasy role, a role you would die to play?

My dream role is The Leading Player in Pippin. The Fosse choreography combined with Steven Schwartz’s music, while playing the villain would be AMAZING!!

Describe yourself in 3 words?

Kind, fashionable and super-star.

What are some of your interests/hobbies/favorite pastimes?

I love to run and I am a singer/songwriter. I also love playing Nintendo Switch.

What does the future hold for you?

Continuing to perform, and I hope I can perform my music all around the world.

What should our readers expect from this touring company of Hamilton?

A lot of people have said we are just as good, if not better, than the original company, so it’s definitely worth coming out and seeing this tour. It’s an incredible company!!
