Central Florida Sounds of Freedom Band and Color Guard, South Florida Pride Wind Ensemble, and Tampa Bay Pride Band are honored to announce details on the musical events associated with the 2019 Lesbian Gay Band Association (LGBA) conference in Orlando.
They invite the public to join them for a night of music, reflection, and inspiration featuring two concert bands and a jazz ensemble. The Pulse tragedy had a huge impact on the LGBT+ community. For Orlando, the impact was a community coming together as one to stand up against hate. The LGBA conference and accompanying music events will celebrate that coming together. With 2019 being the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising, they will honor the past with a focus on building the future. This event will be reflective of our history and accomplishments without forgetting the significant work yet to be done. The concert will feature the debut of 2 commissioned pieces written for this event by acclaimed composers Randall Standridge and Julie Giroux. The performance will be held at The Plaza Live (425 N. Also, they are excited to present a 300+ piece marching band as part of the Come Out With Pride celebration held in downtown Orlando on Saturday, October 12.
In addition to the musical performances, the 2019 conference will bring hundreds of performers to Orlando to learn, perform, and celebrate. Attendees will experience all of the world-class entertainment, facilities, and leisure activities they have to offer in “The City Beautiful”.
LGBA is a musical organization comprised of concert and marching bands from cities across the United States and the world. Formed in 1982 as Lesbian and Gay Bands of America when seven independent bands met formally in Chicago, the Association has grown to 38-member organizations including international bands. LGBA bands and affiliate members meet at their annual conference to plan events, encourage the formation of new bands, and share the gift of music with gay and non-gay audiences.
