In just a few short years, FLoatarama has become one of South Florida’s most inspiring examples of community-driven philanthropy. Founded in 2021 by co-founders Scott Schramm and Rod Mackenzie, this all-volunteer nonprofit organization has transformed a simple idea into a powerful movement dedicated to lifting up LGBTQ+ youth throughout our community.
Built around the motto, “Have Fun, Do Good,” FLoatarama combines celebration with purpose, creating unforgettable events that bring people together while raising critical funds for programs that support LGBTQ+ young people. Its signature event, FLoatarama, has grown into the nation’s largest LGBTQ+ Pride-on-Water fundraiser and a shining example of South Florida’s spirit, diversity, and generosity.
The impact has been extraordinary. Through the FLoatarama LGBTQ Youth Fund, managed in partnership with the Our Fund Foundation, more than $412,000 has been awarded to organizations providing essential services including mental health support, suicide prevention, anti-bullying programs, education, wellness initiatives, and arts programs for LGBTQ+ youth.
At a time when one in five young people identify as LGBTQ+, and many continue to face discrimination, rejection, bullying, and mental health challenges, FLoatarama’s mission has never been more important. Every dollar raised helps create safer spaces, stronger support systems, and brighter futures for young people who deserve to be seen, valued, and celebrated.
