Nearly 125,000 people have signed an online petition demanding that FIFA remove the LGBTQ+ ‘Pride Match’ branding from the upcoming June 26 World Cup game between Egypt and Iran. The Egyptian and Iranian football federations formally protested to FIFA, arguing the designation directly violates their cultural, religious, and social values. They cite FIFA’s own statutes mandating political and social neutrality.
