Last Thursday the GLBX Mixer took place at the fabulous Hilton Hotel Fort Lauderdale Beach.  In partnership with the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce, the goal is to bring together gay and gay friendly businesses in a spirit of co-operation.  The evening wrapped up with a fall fashion preview. Friday night I went down to Lincoln Road for the glitzy airline hostess Pam Ann’s Miami stop on her first U.S. tour. Well, I had heard good things about her from my friends who had seen her perform on Atlantis Cruises or at other venues, but I have to tell you it was a non- stop laugh fest. I was laughing so much, I cried. I would recommend anyone who hasn’t seen here to put it on your must do list the next time she does a US tour. You can count on me being first in line!

The Dolphin Democrats presented their annual dinner at the International Fishing Hall of Fame on Saturday, where they honored over 15 people, including Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Mayor Gary Resnick, Congressman Alcee Hastings, Wilton Manors Police Chief Richard F. Wierzbicki, Charles Perez and Hotspots’ own Pompano Bill. The event, of which a portion of the proceeds went to the Susan G. Komen Fund in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, was very well attended and certainly a huge success.

Following the Dolphins event I picked up my good friend, Mrs. Beasley, and we headed to the 5 star birthday bash at Boardwalk for Jim, Felipe, Vickie, Krystal and Tito.  The party had 2 crowds: the industry crowd that was there to wish our colleagues a very happy birthday and the other crowd, which was there to ogle at all the sexy strippers the Boardwalk has for your viewing pleasure! Following the Boardwalk party I made my last stop at Voodoo Lounge where some friends of mine and I had a VIP table to listen to the magnificent sounds of Tracy Young in concert. As usual, Tracy kept the dance floor packed until closing. Stay tuned next week to hear about all the goings on during Halloween weekend!

After a Senate vote last week, the inclusive hate crimes bill has crossed its last hurdle in Congress! President Obama has vowed to sign it by the end of this month. Today’s victory marks a truly pivotal moment in our fight for LGBT equality. It happened because of the dedication of people like you and the families of Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr., for whom the bill is named. And with bills seeking to end workplace and military discrimination coming up for debate in Congress, today’s victory could be just the first of many if we can keep up our momentum.
