On Friday, quite a few of the Hotspots staff were in Tampa to attend the monthly GaYBOR District Coalition Meeting. Members announced a spring break event called Rites of Spring scheduled for March 19th to the 21st. Other upcoming events planned include Memorial Day Weekend, St. Pete Pride (June 26th) and GaYBOR Days in July. Congratulations to the organizers of the Gasparilla Softball Tournament who hosted 80 teams from all over the U.S. and Canada! What would a weekend in Tampa be if we did not stop at Honey Pot on Friday for the wonderful “Through the Looking Glass” themed event? The crowd was amazing and the décor was simply over the top! Well done Steve M, Steve D, Mathew and team!

The scamming, scheming, double-crossing hit Broadway musical “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” is coming to the Show Palace Dinner Theatre from February 26th through April 18th. Tampa Bay favorite Matthew McGee (“The Big Bang,” “Moonlight and Magnolias,” and “The Producers”) plays suave and sophisticated con man Lawrence Jameson. He is joined on stage by the hilarious Michael Ursua (“The Producers,” Disney’s “Twice Charmed” and the 50th anniversary tour of “Singin’ in the Rain”), who plays Freddy Benson, the brash and vulgar swindler Lawrence takes under his wing. Matthew and Michael are joined by last year’s star of “Thoroughly Modern Millie,” Missy Dowse returning as “All-American Soap Queen” Christine Colgate. Joining the fun are Erin Romero, Thomas Mothershed, Casey Shea and an exciting cast of 12 talented singers and dancers. The show opens on February 26th and runs through April 18th at the Show Palace Dinner Theatre, 16128 U.S. 19, Hudson, Florida. Doors open two hours before each show for dinner and cocktails. On Sundays, the doors open at 1 pm and show starts at 3 pm. Friday and Saturday night performances begin at 8 pm and doors open for dinner and cocktails at 6 pm. Matinees are available on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and doors open for dinner and cocktails at 11:30 am. Tickets are $48, plus tax, for dinner and show. Show only is $36.95 plus tax. Call 727-863-7949 or 888-655-7469 to reserve tickets.

After a very heated 10 week competition at Streetcar Charlie’s the grand finals of the GaYBOR Karaoke Idols contest was held. We have never seen such professional voices all in one place. The winner was Jeremiah Pagan, 1st Runner Up is Bear and the 2nd Runner Up was Jacqueline Larson. Not so long ago an unknown person performed in GaYBOR – her name was Lady Gaga. All three of these performers have the same chance to become superstars!

This Saturday, February 20th, G-bar presents a themed party, the Chinese New Year. They will also feature a Madonna CD release.

After many years of debate and construction the new Tampa Museum of Art opened! The new building is twice the size of the former museum. Rich Kern, Sharon Rose, Gina and Robert were all there for the opening night and shared photos with us at MCFilmFest.com – just click on the gossip star!
