On what we’re sure will soon become a national holiday, the anniversary of America’s first openly gay elected official, Harvey Milk’s Birthday Celebration, was May 22nd.
Organizations across American all came together for the Day of Action. For the first time, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger officially signed a law honoring the slain leader and celebrating Harvey Milk Day. In the state of Florida, the group Stand Up Florida (StandUpFlorida.org) organized a dinner at Streetcar Charlie’s followed by a candle walk vigil. Among the special guest speakers was author, radio host and friend to murdered Matthew Sheppard, Romaine Patterson! The author of “The Whole World was Watching, Living in the Light of Matthew Shepard” gave a very emotional speech at the dinner celebration. To their delight and surprise, as the group was leaving Streetcar Charlie’s they were greeted by Angel Actions! A candle light procession went down 7th Ave. past the protesters and thousands of cheering on lookers! Thank you, Stand Up Florida, for raising the bar and bringing this high level of activism to Tampa Bay and Florida! A very proud night for Florida, Tampa Bay, GaYBOR and Harvey Milk!
A great bar crawl fundraiser was held to help send Mr. Ybor Eagle 2010, Carlos “Wolfy” Diaz, off to this year’s International Mr. Leather (IML) in Chicago. A group of over 50 met on a wonderful Saturday night at the Ybor Eagle. Lead by Tea Cup, they made their way through GaYBOR and made stops at Streetcar Charlie’s, Gaspar’s Grotto, Hamburger Mary’s, The Reservoir, G.Bar and then back to the Ybor Eagle for a WILD (and we do mean WILD!) party! Good luck to Wolfy at IML!
Can we say, “Play ball?” Streetcar Charlie’s softball team Charlie’s Angels are going to the Gay Softball World Series (GaySoftballWorldSeries.com)! The games will take place in Columbus, Ohio on August 16th through the 20th. Let’s all cheer Charlie’s Angels on! Bring the World’s Trophy home to GaYBOR!
People are always asking us…. “Where is the best place to party in GaYBOR?” The answer is easy…. The streets of GaYBOR, a community so full of energy and excitement that it’s bursting over into the streets! With the strangling and intoxicating smells of pizza and auto fumes in the air, sounds of busy laughing people and religious demonstrators on bull horns it is without doubt the very best in people watching! Tour buses, shop owners, VIPs, HOT guys, wild women, drag queens, artists, performers and mostly good people everywhere just having fun.
Tea Cup was in the house at Steam Fridays! What an incredible magical night it was from the sexy dancers to the fab show inside. Out on the balcony was another incredible show of hot, naughty guys all under blooming palm trees high above 7th Ave.
