Newly-formed LGBT Business League to Host International Delegates in Fort Lauderdale & Spread Its Wings in Miami.

The Rainbow Business Coalition, the newly formed association of representatives of LGBT businesses and community leaders that serve both residents and visitors, is firming up their calendar with several major events in the coming months to better foster sustainable growth and generate greater awareness of our LGBT community.

Founded in 2009, the primary mission of the Coalition is to unite the LGBT community by leadership and advocacy. RBC priorities include focusing on communications and networking, promoting new business opportunities, and driving sustainable economic growth while expanding market reach and share for the overall benefit of the LGBT community of Greater Fort Lauderdale.

The “RBC”, as they’ve become known, recently announced its plans to host a celebration event for the over 800 international delegates attending the upcoming International Gay & Lesbian Travel Association (IGLTA) convention in May 2011.

IGLTA is the leading global organization dedicated to connecting businesses in the LGBT tourism industry. Fort Lauderdale was selected as the host city for “Unleashed,” the organization’s 28th annual global convention, set for May 10 – 15, 2011. The RBC, along with the city’s public and private sector entities, recognizes this as an important opportunity to showcase Greater Fort Lauderdale and Wilton Manors in a positive manner and to create a fun, festive and memorable experience for all the visiting delegates. As part of the Fort Lauderdale event, the RBC will hold a consumer travel show on Friday, May 13, 2011 featuring many of the IGLTA member destinations and travel products for the LGBT traveler. Following the travel show, the RBC has also planned a “Parade of Nations” on Friday evening, whereby the convention delegates will carry their country’s flags in a show of pride and unity. The parade will conclude with a concert with entertainment for all the delegates and the local LGBT community to enjoy. Several after-parties will be held at some of Fort Lauderdale’s popular bars and nightclubs. The Coalition is in the final stage of securing their agreement with the host location and look forward to sharing more information as it becomes available.

On April 11, 2011, the RBC will take part in the Miami Gay Pride Expo on Miami Beach. Several members of the RBC’s Food & Beverage team will be the exclusive host of the Gay Pride Expo’s popular Beer Garden. Several RBC bar & nightclub owners & managers will work the booth during the event donating their time in support of our wonderful community. They include: Alibi Wilton Manors, Atomic Boom, Bill’s Filling Station, Johnny’s, The Manor, Scandals, Sidelines and The Stable. The RBC’s participation in this event clearly illustrates that while we live in a competitive business environment, we can better equip the LGBT community with greater strength and power to leverage our collective voices and come together for like-minded causes.
