Outrageous Gay Events All Year Long

The Key West Business Guild, one of the nation’s oldest Gay and Lesbian Chambers of Commerce, is gearing up for another year of blockbuster activities for the LGBTA visitor in 2012.

March and April kick-off Gay Spring Break, an invitation to the collegiate LGBTA traveler to experience Gay Key West by offering a Gay Spring Break that features hotels, restaurants, bars, water excursions and more. About.com calls Gay Spring Break a “best bet” as a classic gay resort destination.

June features Key West Pride, June 6 to 10th, a celebration of the LGBT community and the wonderful island that led the way to gay acceptance many years ago. “You’ve had Pride at home, now experience it in Key West,” encourages the Guild which is planning a five-day schedule of water and land activities that includes Mr., Ms., and Miss Pride Pageants, a street fair, and a colorful community-wide parade up Duval Street. Pride in Key West, is quickly gaining a national reputation which is fitting for the first travel destination in the U.S. to advertise itself as “gay friendly.”

During the heat of summer, the Guild presents Tropical Heat, the island’s hottest event for men, August 16-19th. This adult-themed four-night weekend brings men together from around the county and the world to celebrate the gay lifestyle and on this beautiful tropical island that exudes tropical heat. Clothing optional pool parties, comedy, and water excursions makes being hot very cool! Tropical Heat was named one of the Top 5 end-of-summer gay events by GayTraveler.com

In September the Key West Business Guild hosts Womenfest, the southernmost party for lesbians and their friends, September 4-9. This popular event brings thousands of women together in a weeklong schedule of activities which includes water excursions, golfing, clothing-optional pool parties, late night dancing, and great standup comedians. Women from all over the world attend this popular event that was recently awarded South Florida’s Golden Kitty Best of 2011 award.

Late October brings Key West’s renowned Fantasy Fest Celebration and its premier gay event, the Key West Business Guild’s famed Headdress Ball, celebrating 30th years on October 23. This competition features the best of Gay Key West’s talented performers from local theatres, dance troupes, and drag houses who keep the sell-out crowd entertained while judges adjudicate outrageous headdresses and award grand prize monies.

Every Saturday, visitors and locals can enjoy the Gay Key West Trolley Tour which includes a spirited and entertaining tour of the island along with a special emphasis on Key West’s unique LGBT history and culture.
