Our homes are important and a reflection of who we are, so it’s important for us to keep them looking good.

Sometimes we get stuck in a rut when it comes to updating our homes, but fear not. There are many design resources right in our backyards, on the web and on our televisions. Read on to learn more about them.

design-resources-1Design Center of the Americas (DCOTA)

1855 Griffin Road in Dania Beach

DCOTA is a huge design and office campus which showcases 775,000 square feet of design products. Not only for trade specialists, all designers—from the new to the experienced can find what they need for big and small design projects. There are 100 showrooms which feature furniture, fabrics, window treatments, flooring, paint, lighting, kitchen, bath, accessories, appliances and decorative hardware. It would be impossible not to find inspiration in this gigantic design center!

You can spend hours upon hours watching HGTV and DIY, but for those who really want to delve deep, check out their websites. HGTV is an endless resource for amateur to expert designers. Their website (HGTV.com) is divided up into a variety of different categories, including rooms, outdoors, green homes and more, so it’s easy to find what you are looking for. DIY’s website (DIYNetwork.com) is a great resource for those who really want a hands-on home experience and has categories like Painting, Remodeling, Electrical and Decorating. They provide easy, step-by-step instructions that’ll make you feel like an expert!

Previously known as Buena Vista, the Design District is composed of warehouses and gallery spaces that have been converted into shops and restaurants. In this area, you will find over 130 art galleries, architecture firms, showrooms, stores, antique dealers, restaurants and bars/clubs. Fans of sleek and modern design looks will especially love this area. Head to Miami Design District to explore its 51 furniture stores and design companies!

This island shopping center is located on Lido Key in the Sarasota area.. You’ll find fine shops and restaurants in this well-known area. There are over 130 stores in this Circle including Décor de France, Heriz Persian Rugs and several art galleries and gift shops full of interesting tchotchkes and art work for your home. This beautiful area, known by locals as “The Circle” offers a variety of home items from the elegant to the quirky.

Winter Park

Winter Park, which is just outside of Orlando, is known for its large variety of boutique shopping. Winter Park Village is the place to go for shopping for your home. With stores like Angela Neel Interiors, Owen Allen, Pier 1 Imports and Relax in Comfort, you will find whatever you need for your home. A little known fact is that the first location of ScanDesign, the popular modern and contemporary furniture store, was in Winter Park (it started with just two employees!). You can’t go wrong with this charming part of Orange County.

It’s easy to get oversaturated with ideas, but even using just one of these resources will inspire you. Whether you are looking to update your home’s interior or beautify your yard, you will walk away with tons of ideas when you visit these phenomenal places.
