10in10-bannerPridelines Youth Services announced its fourth annual “10 in 10” fundraising campaign that seeks to raise $10,000 in donations in 10 days between March 11 and March 21, 2013. Donations secured during the “10 in 10” campaign will help South Florida’s oldest LGBT youth serving agency expand its drop-in center services to meet the emerging needs of the local community.

“This year, the success of this campaign is essential to our success as an organization. We face an alarming rise in the youth we serve who are homeless or victims of bullying,” said Victor Diaz-Herman, executive director of Pridelines. “We are currently the de facto emergency shelter for LGBTQ youth in the county and we must expand our space to be able to provide them with beds and support in a safe, nurturing environment.”

In addition to housing, the money raised during the “10 in 10” campaign will allow the organization to provide daily hot meals to youth and emergency services for at-risk youth such as HIV/STI testing, suicide prevention and career services.

Pridelines youth activities also include special events such as CampOUT, Gay Disney, GSA Picnics, the annual same-sex “Youth Prom” and marching in the Miami Beach Gay Pride Parade.

Pridelines Youth Services is a grassroots 501(c)(3) non-profit organization created by gay youth for gay youth and their allies in the wake of Anita Bryant’s “Save Our Children” campaign.  Pridelines’ mission is to support, educate and empower South Florida’s LGBTQ youth in a safe and diverse environment as well as to foster dialogue and cultivate social change.  Pridelines provides safe space, social support, skills building, leadership development and referrals to mental health, health care and support services for LGBTQ youth and their straight allies between the ages of 14 and 24.

Located in Miami Shores at 9526 NE 2nd Avenue, #104, Pridelines is located off of two bus routes and is near I-95.  For LGBTQ youth unable to get to Pridelines, the center offers satellite programs throughout Miami-Dade County.  For more information about Pridelines, call (305) 571-9601, or visit www.pridelines.org.
