RuPaulWeek 10 of Ru Paul’s Drag Race Season 5 brought the Make-Over challenge where the 5 remaining contestants had to make-over a gay member of the armed forces into a Drag Queen, but one that would be in their family. There was no doubt in my mind that Roxxxy stole this challenge; it was not even close. In the end the only 2 good performances were Roxxxy’s and Jinkx’s, but Alaska escaped the bottom 2 so it was CoCo and Detox who Lip Synched for their lives. They were both good, but I think CoCo being in the bottom 2 four times caused her to sashay away. It was nice to catch up with former Central Florida resident CoCo Montrese for this exclusive Hotspots interview.

CocoMontreseAt what age did female impersonation become an interest & how did you pick your name?

It became an interest at 19 or 20 years old and I have never looked back. My Drag Mother Mokha Montrese named me.

How many times did you apply to be on RPDR and how did it feel when you found out you got chosen?

I applied only once and got in. When I found out I got chosen I couldn’t even breath; it felt unreal.

Tell me about your RuPaul’s Drag Race experience?

It is one of the most amazing experiences a female impersonator could have. It’s very hard to explain how it feels to be with the legend, RuPaul.

Sometimes, when you are watching the show, it doesn’t seem that the girls are friends, but I have established strong relationships with almost all the other girls, and I will be friends with these girls for life.

Who do you want to win?

All four that are left are amazing. Based on my friendship, I would love for Roxxxy to win. Based on the competition, I think Jinkx has excelled so much I would be happy if she won.

How is your relationship with Alyssa now?

Wonderful; Alyssa and I are very good friends now. Actually we are more than friends; we are like brother and sister. We love each other but we have our differences from time to time.

How exciting was it to be cast in the Diva’s show and now that you have been there a couple of years how is it?

That was an amazing experience of my life also. I have now been there 2 ½ years and it is still exhilarating every night when I perform on the Las Vegas Strip. There I am known by my given name Martin Cooper so I feel more like an entertainer the a Drag Queen.

Tell me about the man behind CoCo Montrese?

Martin is a very head strong, go-getter and he doesn’t take no for an answer. However, he is a little more laid back than CoCo is.

Tell me something people would be surprised to know about you.

I grew up in a very religious home. I am a PK (Pastors Kid).

What’s ahead for CoCo Montrese?

The sky is the limit as I never limit myself when it comes to my achievement and goals. When you have a good heart and respect others you will succeed and I am living proof of that! I want to do more television, films and much more. I will be on a few shows in the near future including Toddlers and Tiara’s just to name one.
