The South Florida Symphony, under the creative direction of Maestra Sebrina Maria Alfonso, will be presenting their fourth and final Masterworks Concert of the 2014-15 season, called “Fate of a Hero.” This concert will showcase the Symphony’s orchestral talents and a solo number by a special guest pianist.
The first concert will be held at the Tennessee Williams Theatre in Key West on Thursday, March 
26 at 7:30 p.m. The second will be held at the Amaturo Theater at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale on Sunday, March 29 at 7:30 p.m. The Symphony will perform a final time at the Delray Beach Center for the Arts on Monday, March 30 at 7:30 p.m. Pre-concert talks start 45 minutes before each show, with Edward Pitts hosting in Key West and Ian Fraser hosting in Fort Lauderdale and Delray Beach.
The South Florida Symphony will begin the concert with the overture from Masques et bergamasques by Gabriel Fauré. The overture is based on an abandoned symphony of Fauré’s from 1869, and was first performed in 1919. Afterwards, guest pianist Svetlana Smolina will play Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 1. Smolina, originally from Russia, studied extensively in the United States, earning a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Michigan. She has performed in most of the major concert halls in the United States and Europe, and has won five worldwide piano competitions. Finally, the Symphony will perform one of the most recognizable compositions in classical music, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5.

Advance purchase tickets can be acquired by going to southfloridasymphony.org and selecting Masterworks Concert IV. Tickets cost between $25 and $75 for the Symphony’s Key West concert date, between $35 and $75 for Fort Lauderdale, and between $25 and $55 for Delray Beach.
