Dead To Me Season 2

One of my favorite new shows from last year, “Dead To Me,” returns On May 8 on Netflix, and follows Jen (Christina Applegate), Judy (Linda Cardellini) and the lies that entwine them. Picking up in the aftermath of that bloody backyard reveal, the irrepressible pair once again struggle to keep their secrets buried. With a surprising new visitor in town and Detective Perez (Diana Maria Riva) hot on their heels, Jen and Judy take drastic measures to protect their loved ones and each other — no matter the cost. From Emmy Award-winning creator Liz Feldman, Dead to Me returns for an addictively dark second season, where the stakes are higher, the friendship is deeper and the traumas that bond loom larger than ever before. Palm Beach Symphony

Sometimes it’s the space between the notes that creates a masterwork. While the concert halls are dark, the Palm Beach Symphony is engaging the community with educational and entertaining online content featuring, among others: symphony musicians offering tricks of the trade; a former member of the hip-hop group Arrested Development and a nationally recognized attorney; and a financial expert who used to play drums in a punk rock band performing with his talented children. The videos or links to the videos are available at Palmbeachsymphony.org and @pbysymphony on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Billy Porter Releases “For What It’s Worth,”

Grammy, Emmy, and Tony winner Billy Porter has released a soul-stirring cover of Stephen Stills’ “For What It’s Worth,” as performed by Buffalo Springfield, continuing the legacy of using his art as a means to raise consciousness. “I decided to record ‘For What It’s Worth’ because I wanted to have my art and my music matter, make a difference,” Porter said. “I’ve always been a political person. I come from the generation where the music reflected what was going on in the world, in the day. The song was written and performed sort of during the Civil Rights Era, the Vietnam War, it was protest music and I wanted to have a hand in bringing that back and speaking truth directly to power.” To listen to “For What It’s Worth,” go to: https://linktr.ee/TheeBillyPorter

Jerry Seinfeld…Secret Agent?

Jerry Seinfeld: 23 Hours to Kill, launches globally on Netflix, on May 5, and marks the comedy legend’s first original special since 1998. His new hour-long special reinforces his reputation as the precision-craftsman of standup comedy with a never-before-seen set. The special features a spectacular arrival to the Beacon Theatre in New York City, and showcases Seinfeld’s sharp angles on everyday life.

Together in Pride: You are Not Alone

If you missed Together in Pride: You are Not Alone livestreaming show organized by GLAAD last Sunday, you can go to youtube.com/watch?v=p9ESlPp5xKM to watch it. Hosted by Billy Eichner and Lilly Singh with incredible appearances by big names like Melissa Etheridge, Billy Porter, Pete and Chasten Buttigieg, and my new favorite actor Dan Levy (Schitt’s Creek) this benefit show raised over $225,000 for CenterLink and their international coalition of community centers like South Florida’s very own “The Pride Center.” It was such a strong reminder of the important work LGBTQ+ community centers are doing, ensuring that everyone knows they are connected to a loving support system.

Beautiful Masks

There’s a new fashion accessory that we simply can’t avoid in this new era – masks! The CDC has been recommending the use of face masks in public for a while now, and it looks like we’re going to be in this period of social distancing and heightened precautions for quite some time. This means masks are going to be a must-have fashion item to have when going to the grocery store, going for a walk or a run in the park, or going to the post office – really, anywhere other than your home!

If you’re going to have to wear a mask when out and about, why settle for something that’s plain and boring and, dare I say it, unstylish? It doesn’t have to be this way! Indeed, fashion labels have been playing with masks long before the onset of the pandemic. Who can forget Billie Eilish and her Gucci mask at this year’s Grammy awards? Other fashion icons, such as Cristian Siriano, have been using their talents by converting his studio to full-scale mask production for frontline workers.

Hotspots’ own, and my friend, Carlos Marrero took the extra t-shirt inventory he had sitting around in his home studio and brought them to his seamstress to make into masks, and voila the newest addition to the Marrero Collection line was born!
