The Municipal Equality Index, or MEI examines how inclusive municipal laws, policies, and services are for LGBTQ+ people who live and work there. Cities are rated based on non-discrimination laws, the municipality as an employer, municipal services, law enforcement, and leadership on LGBTQ+ equality.

The 2022 MEI is the eleventh annual edition and rates a total of 506 cities on 49 different criteria from every state in the nation. This report has mentioned 19 Florida cities that celebrate 100% HRC Equality Ratings.

The report says, “Over the past year, we have seen some amazing progress and many pro-equality advancements. At the same time, we recognize the ongoing onslaught of attacks against LGBTQ+ rights and lives. Now, more than ever, we need our cities and municipalities to be places where all people are guaranteed the safety and protection they deserve.”

Cities of Florida with a perfect 100 score include Wilton Manors, West Palm Beach, Tampa, St Petersburg, Orlando, Oakland Park, Hollywood, and Fort Lauderdale. There are three Florida cities with a score of over 90 which include Gainesville-96, Coral Gables-95, and Tallahassee-94. Three cities have scored above 80, namely, Miami-89, Miami Shores-85, and Port St Lucie-83.
