Touted as one of the best New Year’s Eve celebrations in Florida, the Fort Lauderdale Orange Bowl Downtown Countdown (SW 2nd Street and SW 5th Avenue) is a free street festival from 4:30pm to 1am that is full of fun and excitement for children and adults. Each year revelers pack downtown to ring in the New Year and see the magnificent lighted drop at midnight. Festivities for kids include bounce houses, inflatables, face painting, games, contests, dancing with the DJ, and a special kid’s countdown. When night falls, the party begins for adults with live music!

AIDS Healthcare Foundation’s (AHF) “Just Use It” billboard campaign now is running in three new cities – Miami, Chicago, and New York City. The billboards featuring a condom-covered banana with the “Just Use It” slogan and the “useacondom.com” URL originally only appeared in six central Los Angeles locations. AHF offers free condoms at almost all of its facilities nationwide, including its 69 Healthcare Centers, 36 Wellness Centers, 62 Pharmacies, and 22 Out of the Closet thrift stores and offers free sexually transmitted infection (STI) and HIV testing at 36 Wellness Centers across 14 states. In Florida, case rates of gonorrhea and syphilis rose 36% and 76.8% respectively between 2017 and 2021. The advertisements are posted at N Miami Ave & NW 11th St (until 12/31/23) and NW 22nd Ave & NW 28th St (until 12/24/23).
