A known philanthropist, actress, and author, Oprah Winfrey and out performer Niecy Nash-Betts will be honored at the 35th Annual GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles on March 14. Winfrey will receive the Vanguard Award for promoting LGBTQ+ acceptance, joining past recipients like Beyoncé and Jay-Z. The Vanguard Award is given to allies who significantly contribute to LGBTQ+ causes. Nash-Betts will receive the Stephen F. Kolzak Award for her impact on LGBTQ+ visibility in media. Named after an LGBTQ+ advocate, this award honors professionals who make a difference. Previous recipients of the award include queer celebrities like Laverne Cox and Ellen DeGeneres.
