For Queer God Squad, the concept of being “born again” isn’t about conforming to a rigid set of beliefs or behaviors but rather about experiencing a transformative journey of self-discovery and spiritual renewal. This is not a universal belief in the conservative and evangelical faith community. We believe that everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, deserves to be fully embraced and accepted in church communities. Being “born again” in this context means embracing one’s authentic self, embracing love and compassion, and fostering a deeper connection with the divine. It’s about letting go of judgment and fear and, instead, embracing the boundless love and acceptance that God offers to all. In our view, requiring someone to be “born again” shouldn’t be about exclusion or coercion but rather about inviting them to embark on a journey of personal growth and spiritual awakening.
