NSU Art Museum presents Creativity Exploration: Folky Florals from noon to 1:30pm. Celebrate the coming of spring by creating a work of art inspired by the folky flower paintings made by painter, Chelsea Granger. Learn about the language of flowers and incorporate a message into your work. Creativity Exploration adult workshops promote the benefits of material exploration and the mind-to-body experience. Studies have shown that 45 minutes of creative activity a day reduces stress and offers mental clarity and relaxation. In addition to producing a sense of well-being, sessions expand participants’ perceptions of forms, while increasing brain connectivity through visual and cognitive stimulation. The workshop is led by educator Lark Keeler, a specialist in mindfulness education. Admission is $15 for members and $25 for nonmembers, and pre-registration is required at nsuartmuseum.org.
The Fort Lauderdale Air Show takes place today and tomorrow, Sunday, May 12 on Fort Lauderdale beach. The show program starts around 11:45am and ends around 3pm on both days. For more information, go to fortlauderdaleairshow.com.
Speaking of the Fort Lauderdale Air Show, the Galleria Fort Lauderdale will offer parking access on both days to raise money for local children’s charities. Parking will be $20 (cash), and the fee will benefit Heart Gallery of Broward County and Julian’s Fountain of Youth. The Galleria’s parking availability helps to provide a short walk to Fort Lauderdale Beach for thousands of Air Show attendees, reducing traffic and parking concerns while raising much needed funds for worthy causes. Parking for eventgoers is in the Lime parking area on the south side of the property, which is accessible from Bayview Drive south of Sunrise Blvd. to 9th Street.
To celebrate the U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Coast Guard the City of Hallandale Beach and the YMCA of South Florida will host “Fleet Week: Salute to the Military.” The event will take place from 9am – 12pm, and will be held at the Hallandale Beach YMCA Family Center (501 SE 1st Ave., Hallandale Beach) and Peter Bluesten Park. Admission is free, open to YMCA members and non-members.

Sunserve presents their Sunsocial Young Professionals Mixer from 6 to 8pm at Violet’s and Zen’s second floor (2010 Wilton Drive). Sunsocial is a group designed for younger LGBTQ+ professionals aged 21-45 from diverse fields. They hold social events to network and share fun experiences, all while creating a welcoming environment for authentic expression and professional growth.

The snap, crackle and pop of contemporary dance has a destination this season when Dance NOW! Miami presents its Program III, today at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts Amaturo Theater, and Saturday, May 18, at the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center, both at 8pm. The program will feature the world premiere of Diego Salterini’s musical and dance journey Pop, a restaging by Daniel Lewis of his Open Book, and a revival of Hannah Baumgarten’s Tethered. Tickets for Broward are $50 reserved seating, and $20 for students with valid ID, at box office only. Outsfl in association with Grieco Ford Fort Lauderdale present The MZ Outsfl Pageant which will be a night of pageantry showcasing volunteerism, community activism, and philanthropy at the Sunshine Cathedral. Doors open at 6:15pm and the pageant will be hosted by Melissa St. John and feature special guests Serena Cha Cha and Kitty Meow. Tickets are $20, and 100% of all ticket sales are donated to the Outsfl, Melissa St. John College Scholarship fund.
The Bears of South Florida presents “Bowling With The Bears” at Manor Lanes. Join them for happy hour at the Sports Den Pub (onsite) at 5pm, and then the bowling starts at 6pm. Whether you’re a good or not-so-good bowler, you’ll have a great time at what has become a popular event for the club. The cost is $35 per Bowler Bear, and if you are not Bowling but want to cheer on your fellow Bears, its $15 per Bowler Bear Fan, where food and soda included.
