Von had the incredible opportunity to attend the first USA HIV Cure Academy in Philadelphia, a groundbreaking event that united experts, advocates, and researchers all dedicated to finding a cure for HIV. Sponsored by AVAC and the Martin Delaney Collaboratories for HIV Cure Research, this academy highlighted the latest advancements in HIV cure research and innovative strategies to combat the virus.

The discussions and presentations covered a range of topics, from immune system strategies to gene editing and viral reservoirs. It was truly inspiring to witness the collaboration and dedication of everyone involved, giving us hope that we are moving closer to an HIV cure. One of the key aspects of this event was the emphasis on community involvement.

AVAC, much like Queer News Tonight, has a “Community Pillar” that encourages open dialogue and discussion from a community perspective regarding these advancements. This approach is crucial for fostering understanding and support. Personally, I am hopeful that we will see the development and implementation of a cure within our lifetime.

A huge thank you to all the brilliant minds and passionate advocates who are working tirelessly to make this dream a reality. Together, we can achieve a future free from HIV. I am excited to develop talks and presentations to share with the HIV community about this research and what a cure could look like for those living with HIV. If anyone listening would like to know more, please reach out to me!
