Marvel Comics is celebrating LGBTQ Pride Month with a powerful new anthology, Marvel United: A Pride Special #1. This one-shot, releasing Wednesday, June 4th, brings together heroes from The Avengers and X-Men to stand against bigotry. The special is available for pre-order at local comic book shops and will be on the Marvel Unlimited app for digital readers. The issue features at least five stories.
The first follows Captain America of the Railways, Aaron Fischer, battling Hate-Monger in a story written by Al Ewing with art by Kei Zama. Another story revisits Captain America and Arnie Roth fighting Hydra in World War II, penned by Anthony Oliveira with art by Pablo Collar. Mystique and Destiny’s parenthood journey with their son, Nightcrawler, will be explored by Wyatt Kennedy and artist Bayleigh Underwood.
Black Cat’s heist gone wrong leads to a clash between the hero Sera and the demon D’Spayre, written by Zoe Tunnell with art by Federica Mancin. More stories, interviews, and essays on Pride’s significance in comics are expected. With stunning cover art by Lucas Werneck and variant covers from top artists, this year’s Pride special promises to be a must-read celebration of queer representation in superhero stories.
