Musa W. Dube, a Botswanan biblical scholar, postcolonial feminist theologian, and Methodist lay preacher, is strongly aligned with LGBTQ+ inclusive theology and advocacy. She has taught at the University of Botswana and is on the faculty at Candler School of Theology at Emory University. She is a scholar for whom sexuality is connected to other concerns, such as race, gender, HIV, human rights, and climate change, placing Queer advocacy and theology within a broad, progressive vision. Her work is often featured alongside other African theologians who denounce religious homophobia. Professor Dube’s scholarship is foundational to African liberationist queer theological pedagogy, as her postcolonial feminist hermeneutics seeks to deconstruct systems of oppression, including heteronormativity. Her academic focus on intersectional liberation theology that includes gender and sexuality makes her a key figure in the advocacy for LGBTQ+ people in Africa and globally.
