A moment of queer-coded justice unfolded onstage in Germany, as an ethical hacker dressed as the Pink Power Ranger wiped out three white supremacist websites in real time. The semi-anonymous hacktivist, known as Martha Root, appeared at the Chaos Communication Congress in Hamburg wearing a Kimberly Hart costume and deleted the servers for WhiteDate, WhiteChild, and WhiteDeal as the crowd cheered. WhiteDate was described by Hoffman as “Tinder for Nazis.”
The other sites included a sperm and egg donor matching platform and what Tech Crunch called a “labour marketplace for racists.” In a viral clip, Martha opens a Python script that erases the sites, backups, and related email accounts. The anonymous administrator later complained online, “They publicly delete all my websites while the audience rejoices. This is cyberterrorism.” Martha told Tech Crunch the hack was possible due to “poor cybersecurity hygiene that would make even your grandma’s AOL account blush.” User images reportedly exposed sensitive metadata. The three sites had about 6,500 users. Eighty-six percent were men.
