Dr. Pamela Lightsey is a scholar, social justice activist, an army veteran, and a leading voice in womanist and queer theologies. She has taught at Meadville Lombard Theological School in Chicago, Boston University, and served as a site pastor at Urban Village Church in Chicago. She is ordained in the United Methodist Church.
Throughout her vocational life, she has been working with local, national, and international organizations focusing primarily on the causes of peacemaking, racial justice, and LGBTQ rights. Dr. Lightsey is the author of OUR LIVES MATTER: A WOMANIST QUEER THEOLOGY. Renowned for her “theology in the streets,” Lightsey gained national attention for her courageous presence during the Ferguson uprisings.
She didn’t just observe; she documented the intersection of faith and the Black Lives Matter movement through film and writing. As an ordained elder in the Methodist Church, she remains a pivotal architect of a modern theology that refuses to separate spiritual devotion from the pursuit of radical justice.
