A Moroccan feminist and LGBTQ+ activist is facing possible arm amputation while serving a prison sentence over a T-shirt reading “Allah is a lesbian.” Ibtissame Lachgar, 50, was arrested in August 2025 and sentenced to two-and-a-half years under Morocco’s blasphemy laws. She later wrote that she is facing cyberbullying with thousands of threats of rape and death. Held in Salé prison near Rabat, Lachgar has a fractured elbow and a dislodged prosthesis. Her legal team and family warn that she urgently needs specialized medical care abroad.
