Former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg is offering his clearest indication yet that he may enter the 2028 presidential race. Speaking Friday in New York at the National Action Network convention, Buttigieg responded to a direct question from civil rights leader Al Sharpton about a possible run.
Sharpton asked, “When you ran for president, you met me and we went to a well-publicized lunch at Sylvia’s restaurant in Harlem…Just so my calendar’s clear, should I be reserving a table at Sylvia’s? Are you going to run again?”
Buttigieg replied with a smile, “You save me a seat. I’ll be there,” drawing immediate applause from the audience.
The remark quickly gained traction online, with commentators interpreting it as a strong signal of a potential campaign; however, later, a spokesperson declined to expand on the comment. While no formal announcement has been made, Buttigieg’s remarks mark a notable step toward a possible 2028 bid.
