Donald Trump recently spoke to children in the Oval Office to relaunch the presidential fitness test, but he diverted from the focus of the event and ended up bashing a trans powerlifter. Speaking with children about sports, Trump asked one boy interested in powerlifting whether he would compete against women.
After the child replied No Trump told the children a story about a transgender powerlifter, misgendering her. Trump said, “Did you see that they had a man powerlifter … he decided to go the opposite direction…took a record, stood for 18 years. He beat it by a 119lbs”. It’s not clear who Trump was talking about; however, once again, President Trump ignored the objective of the event and ended up using it as a platform for criticizing gender-affirming care for transgender youth and discussing unrelated political topics.
