Comedian Chelsea Handler sparked backlash after directing a series of homophobic jokes at MAGA comic Tony Hinchcliffe during Netflix’s May 10 roast of Kevin Hart. Handler mocked Hinchcliffe’s appearance, politics, and association with conservative figures. Her set began saying, “Tony Hinchcliffe is here…Tony is what happens when women don’t have safe access to abortion care…Tony is a real guy’s guy, or what’s more commonly known as a bottom.”
From there, a long string of homophobic jokes started, in which comedian Pete Davidson joined in, too. Hinchcliffe previously faced backlash during an October 2024 rally for President Donald Trump after making racist remarks about Black, Jewish, and Latino communities. He later addressed the backlash, saying his critics “have no sense of humor.” Handler, a longtime LGBTQ+ ally, has also faced criticism in the past over homophobic humor.
