Publisher/Co-Founder of OUTSFL
Congratulations to Bobby Blair on his appointment as Executive Director and Publisher of Hotspots Happening Out Magazine.
For more than four decades, Hotspots has been a trusted voice for South Florida’s LGBTQ community, documenting our history, celebrating our victories, and connecting people across generations.
Taking the helm of such an institution is both an honor and a tremendous responsibility.
Bobby brings a unique combination of experience to the role. Many know him as a pioneering LGBTQ media executive, entrepreneur, and community leader. Others know him from his accomplishments as a nationally ranked tennis player, business innovator, author, and advocate. Throughout his career, he has consistently embraced new opportunities, challenged convention, and sought ways to strengthen and uplift the LGBTQ community.

His résumé is impressive.
From competing on the professional tennis circuit and coaching some of the nation’s top young players, to founding Multimedia Platforms and helping build one of the country’s largest LGBTQ print media companies, Bobby has spent decades creating platforms that connect people and amplify LGBTQ voices. His memoir, “Hiding Inside the Baseline,” chronicled his journey as a gay athlete and led to his induction into the LGBT International Hall of Fame in 2015.
What stood out most in his announcement, however, was not a list of accomplishments but a vision centered on collaboration. At a time when local journalism and community media face unprecedented challenges, cooperation matters more than competition. Strong LGBTQ media organizations help ensure that our stories are told, our voices are heard, and our community remains informed, connected, and engaged.
I was particularly encouraged by Bobby’s commitment to working collaboratively with OutSFL and other community organizations. Our community benefits when publishers, journalists, broadcasters, businesses, nonprofits, and community leaders work together toward common goals.

Bobby also rightly recognized the many people who built and sustained Hotspots over the past 42 years. Publications endure because generations of publishers, editors, writers, advertisers, volunteers, and readers invest their time, talent, and support into keeping them alive. That legacy deserves Recognition and appreciation.
As media continues to evolve, the need for trusted LGBTQ community voices remains as important as ever. I wish Bobby, his longtime partner Brian Neal, and the entire Hotspots team great success as they begin this new chapter.
Congratulations, Bobby. I look forward to seeing where this next era takes Hotspots and the positive impact it will have on our community.
