Fox News is facing online criticism after hosts claimed “thousands” of people attended President Donald Trump’s Great American State Fair in Washington, DC, despite live footage showing mostly empty fairgrounds behind them.
The event, organized by Donald Trump’s Freedom 250 Task Force, opened Thursday and runs through July 10 as part of celebrations marking the nation’s 250th anniversary. The fair is designed as a World’s Fair-style showcase of the country’s 56 states and territories. During a live broadcast, Fox correspondents repeatedly described large crowds.
Host Kevin Corke told viewers, “The pictures really don’t tell the full story because if you look behind us, you see, ok there are a couple hundred people back ther, but the truth is when you make your way over here, you’re in this wash of people.” The remarks sparked widespread mockery on social media.
