Wentworth Gallery in the Town Center Mall, 6000 Glades Rd. Boca Raton, presents a special appearance by Rosie O’Donnell from 6-9pm as the feature her paintings. Rosie O’Donnell’s mixed-media and paintings are created in various abstract styles focused on themes that relate to current events and her introspective feelings.  After the September 11, 2001 disaster, O’Donnell was overwhelmed with emotion and began fashioning newspaper and magazine images into artistic statements on paper, and then moved to acrylics on canvas. Her work is about emotions, figures from popular culture, historical events and family; she has been described as a “visual journal of sorts,” combining abstract expression with realism.  O’Donnell frequently incorporates found objects into her intriguing compositions: fragments of photos, nails, wire, plastic, wood, anything to help her transfer her innermost thoughts onto her canvasses. Compared favorably to the renowned neo-expressionist Jen-Michel Basquiat, O’Donnell combines graffiti with collage and exhibits a similar raw nerve of expression.  They both have an innate inventiveness that results in a collection of works that are at once innovative, controversial and thought provoking.  The canvas for these artists becomes an outlet for their angst, their politics and their passion. The company’s website, http://www.wentworthgallery.com provides information on featured artists, upcoming exhibits, online orders and directions to the nearest Wentworth Gallery, or call 800-732-6140.
