This was a busy week filled with many events and here are the highlights. It started on Friday night when both the Depot and Scandals had big parties. The Depot had their inaugural Red Party for gingers and their admirers, which will now take place on the second Friday of every month (the next one is December 14). Scandals had the Chumley Cruise pre-party with lots of bears partying before their ship left the next day. Saturday featured the re-grand opening of Art Frenzie in its new location. This event included a Ribbon Cutting ceremony with the Mayor and other dignitaries, food, entertainment and much more. Congratulations to Debbi on such a great party and new location. Later that night Eros was celebrating their 1st anniversary with recording artist Amuka who turned it out for the packed crowd. Congratulations to Peter, Carlos and the entire staff on a fabulous 1 year anniversary party. Sunday featured the Equality Florida Broward Gala at the Museum of Art and once again this event was wall to wall people who were all celebrating the victories in the election. Nadine Smith, director of Equality Florida, said it best when she said “The GLBT community is in the best times of our lives politically.” I then went over to the Pride Wind Ensemble concert at the Amaturo Theatre at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. This concert was entitled “Broadway” and if you know me you know I am a Broadway baby, so needless to say I had a wonderful time and was extremely impressed with the Ensemble. I will definitely be at the next concert and I advise all of you to do the same as you will thank me afterwards!

This is HOT!
Latrice Royale and Manila Luzon got the dreaded “chop” on RuPaul’s All Stars Drag Race in the biggest upset of the season (see their exit interview in this issue of Hotspots). This endearing, mismatched pair proved that team Latrila was a royal, magnificent force when they won the first challenge in All Stars history. Sent packing too early, these resilient two are not letting a minor setback discourage them as they release their inspirational duet, “The Chop.” Royale kept the competition in perspective. “As far as winning, my prize was the blossoming friendship with Manila.” Drawing from their personal struggles to “make it,” Royale and Luzon want to remind fans that even when faced with hard times, we have the power to stay on the path to our individual destinies. “It is crushing to fail, especially when you put yourself out there by just trying to be yourself. But it takes a lot of courage to truly be who you want to be, especially in the busted face of adversity,” Luzon said. The first original duet to feature RuPaul’s contestants came together regardless of conflicting schedules. Manila wrote and recorded the song in New York, while Latrice recorded her parts in South Beach, Florida. Remix producer Jared Jones, known for his work with RuPaul, Taylor Dayne, and Solange Knowles, combined their vocal tracks the night before the music video shoot. “I wanted ‘The Chop’ to represent the fierceness and sparkle that is Latrila,” Jones remarked. With their trademark humor and wit, team Latrila is back! Check out their video at HotspotsMagazine.com under “Videos” or you can Google it. This video is HOT and you will want to see it over and over again! I am SO PROUD of my friend Latrice!
