For the second year in a row, gay Latinos in Miami Beach will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month as the Unity Coalition presents Celebrate Orgullo.  is Latin pride event, that’s free and open to the public, is the  rst event of its kind in the U.S. Celebrate Orgullo will not only celebrate the Latin LGBT community here in Florida, but it will also highlight Latino culture from around the world.  The festival is a grassroots e ort, conceived and implemented by a group of volunteers who decided that it was time for Miami Beach to lead the way in honoring the cultural contributions of the LGBT Hispanic community. One of the  rst events of this weekend long celebration is a men’s fashion show that will take place Friday, October 5 at the Art Deco Welcome Center (1001 Ocean Drive, Miami Beach).  The fashion show will feature models wearing the swimsuits of numerous Hispanic designers. Tickets are available for purchase online and start at $30.  ere will also be an art exhibit by Hispanic artist Eleazar Delgado called Architecture of the Tropics.  The exhibit is free and it will remain open through the weekend.

Several workshops and events will be held at the Art Deco Welcome Center on Saturday morning, October 6, but the main event will kick o at noon when the Hispanic LGBT Pride Festival gets started. Follow the Salsa, Bachata, and Reggaeton music to the beach between 11th and 12th streets and you will not be disappointed. After a little a ernoon dancing, you can satisfy your craving for delicious Latino cuisine as you stop by one of the numerous kiosks selling delicacies from around the Hispanic world. (mmm… arepas y chicharrones!)  the main event includes a dazzling lineup of talent: Int’l. recording artist Julien Rego, Madai, Richie Rosario, Twin Soul Conga featuring DJ Midnight Witch, D.C. Cruz, Dance productions by Li ed, and back by popular demand – Lady M and Jose Enrique. Drag divas Adora, Marytrini, Shanaya Bright and Juleisy & Karla will also bring their unique style of glitz and glamour to the celebration. In addition, Univision Radio’s 98.3FM powerhouse & local celebrity Enrique Santos will share the stage with these spectacular performers.  The event will also host a marvelous salsa contest that serves as the culmination of multiple preliminary contests held throughout South Florida. Hundreds in cash and prizes is at stake and a endees will have an opportunity to support their favorite Celebrate Orgullo dance team and help crown the 2012 Dance Champion. 

The celebration will continue until 6pm and part of the proceeds raised will go to help the Unity Coalition’s Scholarship Fund, which provides valuable scholarships to LGBT youth in Miami-Dade.
