CONSUMERS CAN SUPPORT THEIR FAVORITE CAUSES AND SAVE ON IN-STORE PURCHASES

SPOTLIGHT ON THREE FLORIDA NON-PROFITS

On Saturday, August 23, Macy’s department stores nationwide will be participating in the ninth annual Shop for a Cause event, which allows shoppers to donate to their favorite non-profit organizations and charities, and in exchange, they can come to participating Macy’s stores and shop at discounted prices all day.

Here’s how Shop for a Cause works. Non-profit community service organizations that have applied to be a part of this event receive savings passes from Macy’s, which they can sell to their members or supporters at the cost of $5. The non-profits get to keep 100% of the proceeds from the sale of these savings passes.

Then, on August 23, people who have purchased these passes go to the specific Macy’s location where the non-profit signed up. Shoppers show their passes when they check out, and they can receive 25% off regular, sale and clearance merchandise, including designer brands. There is also a 10% discount on electronics, furniture, mattresses and area rugs with the savings pass. With the pass, shoppers are automatically entered to win a $500 gift card, and no purchase is needed to win.

Three different non-profits that we know and appreciate across Florida are participating in Macy’s Shop for a Cause, and we’re here to let you know how you can participate and donate to them in the process.

The Pride Center at Equality Park

According to their mission statement, The Pride Center “provides a welcoming, safe space–an inclusive home–that celebrates, nurtures and empowers the LGBTQ communities and our friends and neighbors in South Florida.” Over 60 regularly-scheduled groups meet at the Center each month, and the Center serves as a major site for HIV testing, prevention counseling and education. Over 17,000 people attend activities at the Center each year.

Shoppers who buy their savings pass with The Pride Center at Equality Park are encouraged to shop at the Macy’s at The Galleria at Fort Lauderdale (2414 E. Sunrise Blvd., Fort Lauderdale) to receive in-store discounts. You can purchase your Macy’s savings pass by walking in any time before the 23rd to The Pride Center (2040 N. Dixie Hwy., Wilton Manors). For more information, call (954) 463-9005.

Come Out with Pride Orlando

Orlando’s LGBT pride parade and festivities celebrate their tenth anniversary this year. Macy’s has been a presenting sponsor of Come Out with Pride for a few years now, and the working relationship between Macy’s and Come Out with Pride continues with this fundraising event, which will benefit Pride week in October. Pride organizers vow to donate half of the proceeds they receive from savings pass purchases to your favorite charity.

Shoppers who buy their savings pass with Come Out with Pride Orlando are encouraged to shop at the Macy’s at The Mall at Millenia (4200 Conroy Rd., Orlando) to receive in-store discounts. You can purchase your Macy’s savings pass by going to comeoutwithpride.com/shop or by calling (321) 800-3944.

Francis House

Francis House is a service organization that serves people affected by HIV/AIDS in Tampa Bay and helps them continue on the path to live self-sufficient lives by providing housing and medical case management, mental health and substance abuse counseling, emergency support, nutritional services, transportation assistance, and recreational therapy.

Shoppers who buy their savings pass with Francis House are encouraged to shop at the Macy’s at WestShore Plaza (250 Westshore Plz., Tampa) to receive in-store discounts. You can inquire about purchasing your Macy’s savings pass by calling their main offices (4703 N. Florida Ave., Tampa) at (813) 237-3066.

If you still want to get in on the savings, you can purchase a savings pass at any Macy’s store and the proceeds from the sale of the savings pass will benefit Macy’s chosen national charity, the March of Dimes. For more information, visit shopforacause.macysinc.com.
